About the VRC

The Virtual Resiliency Center is an on-line centralized resource designed to assist people and communities who have experienced a mass violence incident.

Such as a mass shooting or other crime where multiple people are killed or physically injured. After most mass violence events, many communities establish a Family & Friends Reception Center in the immediate aftermath, and a Family Assistance Center in the weeks and months that follow, to provide support and services to victims, survivors, first responders, and the impacted community. After mass violence, though, people often need additional services and support, along with information about resources that can help them cope with the physical, emotional, financial, social, and spiritual impact of the crime. It often requires weeks or months for local agencies to coordinate services and provide victims and their families with access to long term resiliency services. That’s where this Virtual Resiliency Center comes in. Here, victims, survivors, first responders and their families can immediately find information about victims’ rights, victim/survivor assistance services, mental/behavioral health, and social services. They can find guidance to cope with grief and anxiety. They can learn about how social support and wellness activities can boost their physical and emotional resilience.

The Virtual Resiliency Center was created by the National Mass Violence Center

The NMVC, with support from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office for Victims of Crime. The NMVC provides information about the scope and mental/behavioral health impact of exposure to large-scale crimes and shares them with a wide variety of audiences: victims, survivors, first responders, civic and community leaders, elected officials, researchers, journalists, and community members.

The Virtual Resiliency Center, however, is specifically designed for mass violence victims, survivors, and their communities. All the information you’ll find here is intended to provide help, hope and healing; and to enhance recovery and resiliency in the aftermath of mass violence.
